The Programme Director is Dr Lawrence Mubaiwa, who is also a paediatric neurologist and Head of Clinical Unit Neurology at UKZN. He oversees the program; maintains relationships with partner sending institutions; and develops and maintains relationships with Fellows and their supervisors, both locally and those from sending institutions.
Dr Mubaiwa qualified as a medical doctor at the University of Zimbabwe, has been a member of the department since 1993, and trained as a specialist at UKZN in 1996. He was a recipient of the Fogarty (NIH) International Masters in Child Development Clinical Fellowship for training at Floating Hospital, New England Medical Centre-Tufts University, Boston for 2 years in 2001-2002. He is currently the fourth year medical students’ coordinator, with the responsibility of ensuring the smooth running of block lectures, exams and troubleshooting student issues. He is well versed in university matters having been on the College Board for over 7 years and is experienced in handling issues at both the undergraduate and post-graduate level.
Doctor Mubaiwa works with other specialists who provide mentorship to the Fellows in their respective fields.
