Who we are
The Department of Paediatrics and Child Health provides services to children in KwaZulu Natal Province as well as some tertiary services to children in the Eastern Cape Province. The department has a large training platform for both undergraduate and postgraduate students which includes: eThekwini (Durban complex hospitals), Pietermaritzburg complex hospitals, Queen Nandi Hospital, Newcastle Hospital and Stanger Hospital. We also offer world class sub-specialist training in a number of specialisations i.e. critical care, pulmonology, cardiology, neurology, neurodevelopment, neonatology, infectious diseases, nephrology, haemotology and rheumatology. Our training program also has an African footprint with the flagship African Paediatric Fellowship Program UKZN which offers training for both South African and African graduates in general paediatrics and various sub-specialties.

To maintain pre-eminence in holistic healthcare provision, through socially relevant cutting edge research to address the needs of all children in KwaZulu Natal. This will be linked with training of both undergraduate and postgraduate healthcare professionals at all levels of care, in a compassionate and collegial environment.
